WHERE TO SERVE
Many Ways To Volunteer At WFMC
Have you ever felt as if you were made for more? Would you like to get more involved with the WFMC Family? Consider one or more of the following opportunities to use your gifts and passions to serve, and then connect with the pastoral staff about your interest.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WFMC is overseen by a Board of Directors that is elected at our Annual Society Meeting. This spot is for people with big-picture vision and a determination to see God's kingdom go forward at WFMC.
Commitment: Elected position for three-year term. Monthly meetings, plus committee work.
CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES TEAM
Love kids? This is the place for you. Pastor Jody would love to hear from you! Our Children's Ministries range from our babies in nursery to the pre-teens in Grade 6! You can get involved as a:
Teacher: Teach children Bible lessons, lead prayer and facilitate crafts and activities with other volunteers.
Commitment: One hour weekly or on a rotation basis, plus prep time.
Classroom Helper: Help with classroom interaction with children and participation in the class.
Commitment: One hour weekly or on a rotation basis.
COMMUNION PREPARATION TEAM
This is a very "behind-the-scenes" ministry, but an integral one to our church family. Teams of two prepare the communion elements (gluten-free bread and juice) for the Lord's Supper that is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.
Commitment: 1 1/2 hours set up every 3 months (rotating schedule) PLUS Sunday morning clean-up.
COMMUNITY AND CONGREGATIONAL CARE TEAM
Do you have a heart for those who are struggling? Perhaps you would consider joining this team. Their purpose comes from the truth that people in need matter to God. They believe that no individual in the community who is willing to receive help in Christ's name should be without food, shelter or other basic needs. As an integral part of the ministry of our church, the Community and Congregational Care Ministry Team provides care, concern AND financial assistance to individuals or families who are experiencing needs.
Commitment: Responding to opportunities as they present themselves.
EVENT CHILDCARE
From time to time, we have special events that we celebrate as a church family. These are WAY more enjoyable for the younger members of our family if they have a special place intended just for them. Caring for our precious little ones and showing love to their parents during these events is a wonderful way to serve the Lord.
Commitment: As available, and yearly during Vacation Bible School (held mornings during the Easter school break).
FACILITIES
Perhaps your gifts lie in the carpentry-electrical-plumbing areas! There are always things that can be done in our facilities area -- painting, repairs, major cleaning, you name it! There are also personal needs within the congregation that can be met by someone with a hammer or paint brush!
Commitment: As available.
COUNTING TEAM
Are you good with numbers? We need those with good confidentiality skills to count offerings.
Commitment: One hour on a Monday to count with our bookkeeper, on a rotating schedule.
GREETERS AND USHERS
Help create a welcoming, Christ-like environment for everyone who comes to church. Provide an atmosphere of hospitality, look for people who appear new or lost, share information, be alert to those with needs and provide information during emergency situations.
Commitment: 30 minutes prior to and during scheduled service hours, on a rotation basis.
LIBRARY
We have two libraries - the adult and teen one upstairs and the children's one downstairs. Our librarians can always use more helping hands!
Commitment: As available.
MISSIONS
We have an active Missions Ministry Team. There are lots of opportunities to be involved, whether sorting and packing used clothing or packing up Christmas Shoeboxes to be shipped. They would also be happy to support you if you feel God's call to short or long-term missions.
Commitment: As available.
NURSERY TEAM
A child's first impression of God can happen in a church nursery. Snuggle a baby, help a little one take their first steps, remind parents of God's life-changing love. The Nursery has it all! Cuddling, snuggling, crying, laughing, baby-talking and the occasional diaper ... but the love and smiles we get in return are priceless.
Commitment: 1-2 services per month.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Your role would be to attend WFMC events in order to provide hi-res photos for memory-making and promotional purposes. These may be used on our website as well. The role would also include keeping our "Church Family Photo Display" current.
Commitment: As needed.
PRAYER TEAM
We are working on revitalizing our Prayer Team. If you would like to be involved in a fresh ministry face for this team, please contact one of the pastors.
PROGRAM
Our Program Team covers three main areas: providing kitchen help for church events such as potlucks, funerals and showers; welcoming babies and honouring brides with showers; and ministering to the hospitalized and bereaved with a visit and flowers or a card.
Commitment: As needed.
SMALL GROUPS
Making your home available to host a small group or your skills to lead one can be a life-changing ministry.
Commitment:
Facilitator: Lead group discussion with a short Bible study and group prayer. Support provided. 1 1/2-2 hours per week, plus prep time.
Host: Open your home for a group to meet and have Bible study together. 1 1/2-2 hours per week.
WELCOME : CONNECT TEAM
Care for people by providing information that will assist them in connecting with God, other people and ministries. Present a warm, open and judgment-free atmosphere; be familiar with what is happening at the church; have an understanding of the ministries and services available.
Commitment: 30 minutes prior to and following scheduled service hours, on a rotation basis.
WORSHIP
Worship encompasses a number of areas:
Decorations: We have a team that looks after the decorating of the sanctuary and foyer areas of the church.
Commitment: 1 hour per month, with a little more at Christmas.
AV/Sound/Power Point: There is always a need for trained technicians to operate mikes, the power point system and the video camera for worship team practices on Saturday evenings and for the service Sunday mornings. Training is provided.
Commitment: 2 hours Saturday night and the service Sunday morning, on a rotating schedule.
Worship Teams: Leading musical worship on Sunday mornings is both a gift and a responsibility. We have rotating teams, including a youth team, that lead us.
Commitment: 2 hours Saturday night for rehearsal and the service on Sunday morning, on a rotating schedule.
YOUTH MINISTRIES
Our Youth Pastor leads a team of people to minister to our youth. You could be a great asset here in leading our teens to follow Christ for a lifetime.
Commitment:
Small Group Leader: 2 hours weekly (Wednesdays) plus prep time.
Youth Group Leader: 2 hours weekly on a Friday Night; large group of either grades 7-9 or grades 10-12.
