WFMC Missions
Weyburn Free Methodist Church supports a broad range of mission efforts with our guiding principle being WFMC Missions: Everyone a missionary. Everyday. Everywhere.
“Being a missionary” is commonly thought of as a task for a select few people who are willing to “go” somewhere far away to a people of different ethnicity, culture and language. But Jesus was very clear when He gave His Great Commission that it was for ALL of His disciples to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Therefore, it is the dream of the WFMC Missions Team that everyone who is part of our church and calls themselves a follower of Jesus Christ would both see themselves as an everyday, ordinary missionary, and be equipped to be just that.

VALUES: The values that are distinctively guide the work of the Missions Team are:
- Partnership – we are not the Messiah, nor are we superior to those whom we serve and work with. We want to follow the example of the Holy Spirit who comes alongside us as a paraclete to strengthen and support us. To that end, we will always work with/through credible and compatible partner organizations when operating outside the local sphere of WFMC.
- The Micah 6:8 Balance – we strive to maintain a balance in our ministries of serving the interests of evangelism, compassion and justice. We happen to believe that long-term connections are the best, because if we begin with evangelism in mind, once we get to know the people, we will also want to serve their compassion-based needs, which will open our eyes to justice issues that cause the needs to exist in the first place.
- The Acts 1:8 balance – we strive to maintain a balance of local, cross-cultural and “long-distance” ministries, lining up with the expanding levels of missionary activity Jesus referred to in Acts 1:8.
- Intentional discomfort – we believe that “missionary work” simply involves being willing to step across the “chicken line”. We need to be willing to push past that fear and discomfort that comes just before we make a significant difference in someone else’s life. An everyday missionary is always aware of the cultural pressure to conform and be safe, and is just as constantly asking God for the insight and courage to move past that. This may come from risking a caring, spiritual conversation with a co-worker, or serving in a cultural context that is unfamiliar and uncomfortable for them.
MISSION: We will accomplish this through:
- INVITING/INFORMING: As a missions team, we will be “missionaries for missions”, always carrying the message, inviting people to join us in our everyday missions task. We will use all avenues available to us, inside and outside the church to invite anyone who will to join us.
- PRAYING: Everyday missionaries are engaged in the task of pushing back spiritual darkness everywhere they go. This is spiritual work that needs spiritual power and guidance. Our missions team believes that listening and interceding are key elements to God’s Kingdom coming and His will being done on earth as it is in Heaven.
- GIVING: When most people hear about missions, this is traditionally when people think about – giving money to support missionaries. And it is that. But for us, it is also so much more. We see “missions giving” as encompassing the whole spectrum of who we are: our Time, Treasure, AND Talents. So, giving also means serving! And we want to give the people of WFMC opportunities to give in many ways!
- GOING/SENDING: In addition to supporting, giving, and serving, some people will also be called to GO. Initially, we will support the people from our church with prayer, encouragement and finances to go on short-term trips to learn about and serve in other contexts. Some people will feel a growing sense of call to serve long-term, and we will support them too.
