WEYBURN FREE METHODIST CHURCH

Free Methodist Church in Canada
21 Days of Prayer & Fasting
as We Enter a New Season of Ministry

September 10-30
Weyburn Day:  Sunday, September 19th

PRINTABLE INFO SHEET
The National Prayer Team is calling the FMCiC as a family of churches to pray and fast the last three weeks of September to seek the Lord's strength and help in the days ahead.  These are challenging times as we deal with COVID, racial tensions, forest fires, Haiti's devastation, the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, the Canadian election, and the increasing opposition to the light of the gospel.

Jesus said that, "Because of the increase in wickedness the love of many will grow cold" (Mt. 24:12).  Thank God for His many promises to keep us and use in these days; promises like:  "So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Is. 41:10)

They have named three areas to especially cover in prayer:
  • Coming out of lock down and wondering what ministry will/should look like this fall.  Seek the Lord for His direction as we move forward.
  • Seeking the Lord's clear direction regarding how we should show hospitality and welcome to the LGBTQS+ community.  Pray for upcoming discussions about what the Scriptures teach us and what applying these truths looks like in our present day.
  • Earnestly seek the Lord to make sure our hands are clean and our hearts pure as we move forward.  In Joel 2:12-17 the nation was called to fast and pray and seek the Lord's cleansing so that He could once again bless them.
Can we as a church family of believers bring these areas daily before God during these three weeks?

Our church also has signed up for Sunday, September 19th, to cover in prayer and fasting for the whole FMCiC.  Please consider setting aside some extra time for prayer on this day, and consider fasting for all or part of the day.  Or pick another day if the 19th doesn't work for you.

Perhaps you never have fasted?  Fasting can be a deepening experience in your spiritual life.  You can fast from food, totally or partially; from coffee; you can fast from social media or from television.  You can fast from anything that will cause you to think to pray when you think of that thing you are fasting from.  Perhaps begin with part of a day fast.  Prepare yourself mentally and spiritually the day before.  If fasting from food, eat lightly the day before and to break your fast.  Most of all, ask your Heavenly Father how he would like you to focus your attention on him.

Consider some resources from Bible.com (distributors of the YouVersion Bible App) - "Fasting With Others."  You will need to create a free account to access.  You can access it from the website or download the app.

There will be Zoom prayer gatherings each Wednesday (September 15, 22, 29) at 9 pm ET (7 pm Sask).  Contact Patty or Laurel for the access code OR join us at the church each Wednesday to participate together.
